Press Release: Claire Yarrington Teaches in New York

Information and Policies for Private Vocal Study

Scheduling:

The acceptance of private students is based on an initial interview to determine placement, combined with an assessment and half-hour lesson. The singer participates in a short discussion of their goals and requirements for study, vocal range & focus of vocal development will be determined. Students who commence study are encouraged to make a commitment for a minimum of 12 lessons. Students who do not meet the requirements for private study will be encouraged to enroll for vocal technique or musical theatre classes.

Weekly Lessons:

Lessons times are scheduled on an individual basis for each student. You do not need to call to confirm a lesson time that has been pre-determined. Waiting list students (in studio) will be offered times when regular students need to cancel a lesson, on a rotating basis. Singers should arrive on time and bring a ring binder for sheet music/lyrics, a pencil and blank CD to each lesson. Internet or phone lessons are available upon request.

Payment:

Lessons must be paid in advance by cash, check or Paypal unless otherwise arranged. Please make checks payable to Claire Yarrington, indicate name on the check and place in the basket on the piano. Please do not include private lesson payment with your payment for other classes. For ease in bookkeeping, please also note the lesson date that your check is for. For information on private vocal rates, please email Claire Yarrington at: claire@ctarts.com

Cancellation:

48 hour notice is required to cancel a private lesson; otherwise the full fee is due. To cancel lessons with voice teacher, two calls must be made: one to the studio (925-944-0551) and one to the individual teacher (Claire Yarrington (707-616-7798.) Occasionally it is necessary for the teacher to cancel a lesson due to a performance engagement, directing or other teaching requirement. When this happens, as much notice will be given as possible, and the student will not be charged. A replacement lesson will be arranged if requested.

Practice:

It is understood that regular practice is necessary to benefit fully from private study. Students are encouraged to practice a minimum of 20 minutes daily (5 days a week is recommended,) including techniques: scales and arpeggios from recorded lessons (for breathing and vocalization) and songs. Advancement may include recommended master classes and workshops with other qualified instructors and style coaches. Claire Yarrington is a Level 4 certified Speech Level Singing instructor.

Technique:

Students will be studying Speech Level Singing technique, an internationally acclaimed system for safe and effective vocal improvement. Information on Speech Level Singing can be found on this website: www.speechlevelsinging.com.
Students are expected to purchase their own sheet music and CDs for accompaniment.
