YOUNG PERFORMERS COMPANY is the advanced youth performing group at CTA. It was organized in 1989, with admission based on audition. The group gives aspiring professionals ages 10 to 19 an education in the performing arts (singing, dancing and acting) and the opportunity to acquire experience in musical theatre and perform extensively for the community. Many company members have taken leading roles in local musicals including Annie, Anything Goes, The Sound of Music, Peter Pan and Bye Bye Birdie; and aspire to performing careers. Alumni are currently working in professional theatre from San Francisco to New York.Brief history: In 1995 the company performed two acclaimed concerts with the Diablo Symphony at the Concord Pavilion and the Dean Lesher Regional Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek. The 1996 tour included performances at the Walnut Festival, Broadway Plaza, and Dunsmuir House in Oakland, Ca. 1997 brought the group to Disneyland, St. Mary's College, Art on the Main, and in 1998 back to the DLRCA for a concert performance. In 1999 the Young Performers were the featured singing group at the (San Francisco) Ghirardelli Square Tree Lighting Ceremony Nov. 26th, and performed again at the Concord Pavilion's Festival of Lights. The years 2000 and 2001 brought them for the first time to perform in New York City as part of an Educational Performance Tour. The group was acclaimed in venues including Southstreet Seaport, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, the United Nations, and St. Patrick's Cathedral. June 16-21, 2002, the group toured Los Angeles, returning to Disneyland and performing at the Crystal Cathedral, Universal Studios, and the Long Beach Aquarium. Service performances were also given at the City of Hope and Long Beach Veteran's Hospital. Performers were also privileged to attend a vocal workshop with Seth Riggs. The 2003 Spring Tour: Hoedown! a tribute to 19th century.... was performed at both Ferndale Repertory Theatre and the Winema Theatre in June. The company returned to the Winema in December with an original show entitled "Christmas Time." The group is currently under the direction of Claire Yarrington.
